KTM preparing a more powerful X-BOW

Posted: 16 Jul 2008 06:52 PM CDT

KTM X-Bow

KTM is working on a more powerful version of the X-BOW and the official launch will be made in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. Under the hood KTM will have a modified version of Audi's 2.0-liter FDI engine, an engine that has produced as much as 261 horsepower in the S3. The new model will get a full-height windshield a removable roof. That should aid greatly in making the X-Bow a more livable proposition, but it will be interesting to see how they negotiate putting a convincing-looking hat on such a minimalist roadster. The more powerful model could be joined later by a new variant sporting a full windshield and a removable roof, making the case for the X-Bow more compelling and allowing KTM to take aim at traditional track toys.

Kia sales grew progressively in the last years and that created a more attractive perspective about the Korean cars. After showing the Soul concept in different shapes and colors, Kia announced that this is the final version. Also they have offered some information about the engine range.

The new model, Soul, will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, this October and it can be bought a month after. The car is 4105 mm long, 1785 mm wide and has a high of 1610 mm (this are almost the same dimensions as Nissan Note).

Under the bonnet there will be a 122 hp 1.6 liter engine, a 2.0 liter one and a Diesel, also 1.6 liter - 115bhp (turbocharged). The base 1.6 liter engine will be the same as those from Kia Cee’d. Although it has a SUV look, Soul will be available only in front wheel drive. The concept was created by the designers from Kia Europe, but the series model was made by two creation teams, one from California and one from Coreea.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo World Record

This weekend, at Castle Combe Racing Circuit in Wiltshire, England, MLR (Mitsubishi Lancer Register) has set a new world record for the largest parade of Mitsubishi Evos. Though less than expected, 273 Evos , grouped by color, drove for 2 miles at constant speed and managed to brake the record and also raise £7,459.27 for the Richard Burns Foundation, with a big support from Mitsubishi Motors UK.

The record was confirmed by Buiness World Records and Darin Frow, the MLR Chairman said that “it has taken a small team of MLR members a huge amount of time and effort over the last year to pull this World Record attempt together, but to see it finally come to life on Saturday was incredible [..] Everyone involved had a great day and to see so many Evos on track all at once whilst history was in the making was truly spectacular. We were delighted with the support we received from Mitsubishi UK and for their generous contribution to our chosen charity."

BMW M3 CSL scheduled for 2010

BMW M3 CSL

We all know that BMW takes pride in being considered one of the sportiest wide range german manufacturers, and that being said, their special performance M division has quite a job to do, having suceeded in most of them, their newest M3 being praised as a great entry level sedan, but there’s always room ot improve, such is the case that the CSL version of the M3 is reported to appear in early 2010.

This CSL version, standing for Coupe Sport Lightweight, will represent the top of the range of 3 series based models, essentially being a much lighter version of the M3. The target weight to be saved is around 100 kg, engineers using a lot of carbon fiber based materials and eliminating altogether “luxuries” like the radio, A/C or the navigation deemed not worthy of this pure performance oriented car.

But the changes don’t end with the “diet” that the car has been put on, the CSL will have a new reworked suspension, a boost of almost 50 bhp for the engine, taking it to a total of 470 bhp and to transfer all this power to the road, new performance tires will be fitted to special rims. To demonstrate the track oriented use for this model, BMW hope it will lap the Nurburgring in 7:45, other supposed performance specs are the 0-100 km/h time of 4.5 s and a top speed around to 300 km/h (186 mph).

All of this performance does come with a cost, prices set to be around €90,000, and considering the limited run of the previous model of about 1400 cars, buyers should hurry when it will be officially announced.
