What do you consider prestigious, old world traditions or new and innovative? I guess that depends on the beholder. When the Luxury Institute released their latest survey results, I almost could hear a collective gasp through out the internet. Lexus, a brand a lot of you discount as a knock off, ranked number two behind Porsche and ahead of luxury icon Mercedes-Benz. A frightening prospect for many a purist. But then just a few hours later, another survey came out ranking Lexus as merely a tier three brand, not even on the level of the German big three. Both of these articles had fans coming out of the woodwork to defend their values.

Being a dedicated “Green” advocate has it fair share of hurdles. Everytime you turn around, you see the waste and you try to lower your carbon footprint as much as possible. So imagine dedicated greenie Paul McCartney’s displeasure when his brand new statement of “green”, a Lexus LS600h was delivered to him. This fine example of eco-friendly engineering arrived fresh off a jet that emitted an estimated 100 times the CO2 pollutants over a traditional delivery via transport ship. It seems not everyone on his staff was as tuned in to green as Sir McCartney was.

Some things are a given, for example we all have a mother. Another may be we all think we know was the “Mother” of all cars could be. But do you know which car is the “Mother” of coupes under $50k? How about the Infiniti G37 or the BMW 335i? Both are excellent examples of performance coupes, but both have a decidedly different flavor. So was your favorite filet mignon or simply chopped beef? It’s not too late to tell everyone out there.

We are all used to seeing a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and even an Audi or two tear up the Nurburgring track. But what if there was a contender out there that just blew them all away in one fell swoop? Well, believe it or not the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V just did that, with a lap time that may have changed the way we view those performance sedans forever. That blistering lap time may just be the signal some of you need to start considering Cadillac as a performance brand. So are the Cadillac glory days of the past returning?

There are truly some superb 4-door coupes currently in development including the Porsche Panamera and the Audi A7, but arguably the sheer beauty of the Aston Martin Rapide will see it come out on top.
